An Introduction to Vitamins for Hair Loss in Women

Many women suffer from hair loss each year. They are in fact more likely to suffer from hair loss caused by underlying medical problems such as anemia, thyroid problems, and hair trauma. Because of these, it is important that vitamins for hair loss in women be considered by women who experience hair thinning. It is also important that they see a doctor right away to find out if there is an underlying disease behind their hair problems. If an underlying problem is causing the hair loss, the doctors will be able to decide the best treatment given the woman's age and health.

Serious underlying medical problems aside, women suffering from hair loss are asked to take B-vitamins and check on their iron absorption. With the many active roles women play these days, many cases of hair loss are actually caused by extreme stress and a lack of care towards the body. The B-vitamins should help keep the hair and scalp well balanced and healthy, while making sure iron is being absorbed properly is keeping problems like anemia at bay. Vitamin C, Vitamin E, and Zinc are also known to help hair loss.

There is such a thing as too much vitamins, though! In women, too much calcium can make hair fall out. Many women are told to take calcium tablets to help their bones and help prevent osteoporosis, but studies have shown that an excess amount of calcium in the body can actually speed up osteoporosis as well as cause hair loss! More importantly, the excess calcium builds up in the muscles and tissues where it can cause more harm and complications.

Excess calcium is one of the reasons why one of the best things women suffering from hair loss can do is to maintain a healthy diet and a healthy lifestyle. Sometimes it is the things women do that are counterproductive to the vitamins they receive from food and to the supplements they take to avoid illnesses. Having too much sugar, carbohydrates, fatty foods, and processed foods is not good for the body, and it can actually increase calcium levels.

The vitamins for hair loss in women are more or less the same for men, just as long as the hair loss is caused by age or genes. It is important that the cause of the hair loss is properly pinpointed by a doctor so that the method or methods of treatment can be discussed. Whether or not the cause of hair loss is serious, some hair loss products can be very harsh, and taking them alongside doctor's guidance is the safest route.
